\u00bfQu\u00e9 desaf\u00edos consideras que deben tomar los y las estudiantes de ingenier\u00eda en Chile?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u00a0La educaci\u00f3n de ingenier\u00eda en Chile ya es muy buena. He trabajado con ingenieros de multiples universidades en Chile, incluyendo por supuesto colegas de la Universidad de Concepci\u00f3n<\/strong>. En mi experiencia, he conocido colegas muy capaces de todos lados, tanto universidades tradicionales como privadas, del norte, del sur y de la capital.<\/p>\n

Curiosamente, tambi\u00e9n he trabajado con ingenieros de pa\u00edses vecinos. Por ejemplo, muchos de los ingenieros que he conocido de Per\u00fa y Colombia han sido excelentes, muy bien preparados, de los mejores que he conocido.<\/strong> No puedo decir lo mismo de ingenieros Argentinos ni Brasile\u00f1os ya que no me causaron la misma buena impresion como lo hicieron los ingenieros peruanos y los ingenieros colombianos. Creo que el mensaje para los ingenieros chilenos es saber que competimos en un mercado global y que hay buena competencia en los pa\u00edses vecinos del Per\u00fa y otros de sudam\u00e9rica.<\/strong><\/p>\n

El nivel de dominio del idioma ingl\u00e9s parece ser sobre estimado por los ingenieros chilenos, es decir, que en general hablan el ingl\u00e9s peor de lo que ellos creen o declaran saber en sus cv’s.<\/strong><\/p>\n

En lo personal, creo que me hubiese gustado saber el a\u00f1o 2001 que nos vinimos a USA para quedarnos; creo que yo pens\u00e9 que esta ser\u00eda una asignaci\u00f3n temporal de un par de a\u00f1os; pero casi 20 a\u00f1os m\u00e1s tarde todav\u00eda estoy por estos lados. Muchas personas creen, correctamente, que no es tan f\u00e1cil salir del pa\u00eds (Chile) a trabajar como ingeniero, pero lo que muchos desconocemos es que regresar tambi\u00e9n es dif\u00edcil.<\/strong><\/p>\n

En lo profesional, creo que tambi\u00e9n me hubiera gustado haber entendido los pasos que deb\u00eda tomar para establecerme como ingeniero en los Estados Unidos, como por ejemplo para conseguir mi licencia, o bien los pasos para poder seguir estudios ac\u00e1;<\/strong> todo eso lo tuve que descubrir pr\u00e1cticamente solo.<\/p>\n

En Estados Unidos, validar mi estudios y mi t\u00edtulo.<\/strong> Ac\u00e1 se requiere cumplir con tres requisitos b\u00e1sicos (var\u00edan dependiendo del estado): haber completado estudios de ingenier\u00eda en una entidad reconocida por una organizaci\u00f3n de acreditaci\u00f3n (la Universidad de Concepci\u00f3n no est\u00e1 reconocida por ABET), pasar dos ex\u00e1menes (Fundamentals of Engineering, Professional Engineering); a\u00f1os de experiencia trabajando bajo la supervisi\u00f3n de un ingeniero licenciado (en mi caso me ped\u00edan demostrar 8 a\u00f1os trabajando bajo la supervision de un ingeniero licenciado).\u00a0<\/strong>En Per\u00fa, las rotaciones muy largas, lejos de la familia, en\u00a0Egipto: el idioma y las diferencias culturales.<\/p>\n

\u00abMotivo, trabajo (continuidad laboral)<\/strong>. El a\u00f1o 1999<\/strong>, mi empresa me ofreci\u00f3 seguir trabajando con ellos en el extranjero (Per\u00fa)<\/strong>. Las cosas en Chile no se ve\u00edan muy bien en esa \u00e9poca en el rubro de construcci\u00f3n de plantas mineras, as\u00ed es que acept\u00e9 ir a Per\u00fa a trabajar en un proyecto de miner\u00eda de cobre. Algo similar ocurri\u00f3 luego cuando mi empresa me invit\u00f3 a venir a trabajar a los Estados Unidos el a\u00f1o 2001 en donde nos radicamos con mi familia, y a Egipto el a\u00f1o 2016″<\/strong><\/p>\n
