El Departamento de Ingenier\u00eda Qu\u00edmica de nuestra Facultad de Ingenier\u00eda, DIQ, en conjunto con Biodiversa, empresa filial de Essbio, recientemente fueron notificados con la aprobaci\u00f3n de un proyecto presentado a Corfo que busca escalar un proceso de revalorizaci\u00f3n y tratamiento de lodos sanitarios para convertirlos en insumo que permita la recuperaci\u00f3n de metales en la industria.<\/strong><\/p>\n

La gesti\u00f3n y disposici\u00f3n de lodos sanitarios implica grandes costos en transporte y tratamiento, lo que adem\u00e1s est\u00e1 ampliamente limitado por la capacidad de carga que puedan tolerar los monorrellenos o suelos agr\u00edcolas donde \u00e9stos se disponen. En este contexto es que la empresa filial de Essbio, Biodiversa, se acerc\u00f3 al Departamento de Ingenier\u00eda Qu\u00edmica con la finalidad de investigar las posibilidades que se pod\u00edan desarrollar para revalorizar este residuo.<\/p>\n

\u201cEn Biodiversa tienen muchos lodos y actualmente est\u00e1n con bastantes problemas para disponer de ellos, por lo que nos solicitaron, en diciembre del a\u00f1o pasado, que abri\u00e9ramos una l\u00ednea de tratamiento y revalorizaci\u00f3n de lodos\u201d<\/strong>, comenta Marlene Roeckel, acad\u00e9mica del DIQ y Directora del Proyecto \u201cValorizaci\u00f3n de Lodo Sanitario: Extracci\u00f3n de Biosorbente de Alta capacidad para Remoci\u00f3n de Metales\u201d<\/strong>, presentado al concurso \u201cCREA y VALIDA 2020\u201d<\/strong> de Corfo y recientemente adjudicado.<\/p>\n

\u201cEntonces hicimos b\u00fasqueda extensa para inspeccionar todos los usos y evaluar qu\u00e9 se pod\u00eda hacer; por ello se nos ocurri\u00f3 \u00abdestilarlos\u00bb y presentar un proyecto de investigaci\u00f3n y desarrollo en conjunto, es decir, Biodiversa como beneficiarios y el Laboratorio de Bioingenier\u00eda del Departamento de Ingenier\u00eda Qu\u00edmica de la UdeC, como entidad colaboradora a cargo de la investigaci\u00f3n\u201d<\/strong>, especific\u00f3 la acad\u00e9mica.<\/p>\n

La soluci\u00f3n que plantea este proyecto es utilizar el lodo sanitario como insumo para producir un extracto de sustancias extrapolim\u00e9ricas -EPS-, que b\u00e1sicamente act\u00faa como un biosorbente o captador de metales cati\u00f3nicos.<\/p>\n

Cabe mencionar que el DIQ ya desarroll\u00f3 un prototipo de baja resoluci\u00f3n, el que demostr\u00f3 la capacidad del EPS para remover cationes, por sobre las alternativas del mercado. De esta forma, en el proyecto se evaluar\u00e1 el m\u00e9todo de extracci\u00f3n de EPS con mayor potencial de escalabilidad y as\u00ed validar la adsorci\u00f3n de metales y tierras raras desde efluentes industriales.<\/p>\n

A su vez, este producto podr\u00eda comercializarse para aumentar la capacidad de recuperaci\u00f3n de metales y depurar efluentes industriales contaminados con \u00e9stos, cambiando as\u00ed el modelo lineal y tradicional de gesti\u00f3n de lodo, por uno de econom\u00eda circular donde el residuo es transformando en un insumo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

El equipo que conforma este proyecto de investigaci\u00f3n est\u00e1 integrado por Marlene Roeckel<\/strong>, acad\u00e9mica del DIQ y quien ejecuta el rol de Directora; V\u00edctor Guzm\u00e1n<\/strong>, Bioingeniero UdeC, Mag\u00edster en ciencias con menci\u00f3n en Microbiolog\u00eda y estudiante del Doctorado en Ingenier\u00eda Qu\u00edmica del DIQ, quien asume como Director Alterno; Constanza Arriagada<\/strong>, Bioingeniera UdeC, Diplomada en An\u00e1lisis y Gesti\u00f3n del Ambiente y estudiante del Doctorado en Ingenier\u00eda Qu\u00edmica del DIQ, quien asume como Investigadora Principal; el profesor Carlos Pe\u00f1a<\/strong>, Bioqu\u00edmico UdeC, Doctor en Ciencias con menci\u00f3n en Qu\u00edmica, quien asume como Investigador Asociado, y en el mismo rol M\u00f3nica P\u00e9rez<\/strong>, Qu\u00edmica y Doctora en Qu\u00edmica. <\/p>\n
