Ingenieros e investigadores de la Facultad de Ingenier\u00eda se suman a las actividades de cooperaci\u00f3n para enfrentar el Covid -19. Esta vez, y bajo el alero de la Vicerrector\u00eda de Investigaci\u00f3n y Desarrollo de la Universidad de Concepci\u00f3n, se lleva a cabo un importante trabajo tendiente a aportar informaci\u00f3n relevante de los habitantes de la Regi\u00f3n de \u00d1uble \u2014especialmente en Chill\u00e1n\u2014 a las autoridades regionales.<\/p>\n

Se trata de caracterizaci\u00f3n de la poblaci\u00f3n y condiciones urbanas para una mejor toma de decisi\u00f3n, tema que ha sido liderado por tres acad\u00e9micos. Se trata de Juan Antonio Carrasco<\/strong> del Departamento de Ingenier\u00eda Civil e integrante del Centro de Desarrollo Urbano Sustentable, Cedeus<\/a>; junto a Guillermo Cabrera<\/strong> y Diego Seco<\/strong>, ambos del Departamento de Ingenier\u00eda Inform\u00e1tica y Ciencias de la Computaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

La iniciativa, que nace desde la Seremi de Ciencia \u2014encabezada por Paulina Assmann\u2014 ha estrechado el v\u00ednculo entre el mundo cient\u00edfico y pol\u00edtico, en un momento crucial donde dicha alianza es fundamental.<\/p>\n

Investigaci\u00f3n 1<\/strong><\/p>\n

Una primera l\u00ednea de investigaci\u00f3n busca caracterizar la poblaci\u00f3n y sus condiciones urbanas y por lo tanto, el trabajo comprende \u201ctener alg\u00fan tipo de diagn\u00f3stico socio-espacial consistente en identificar d\u00f3nde est\u00e1n los territorios en los que hay que estar m\u00e1s atentos, por ejemplo, lugares donde hay condiciones de hacinamiento mayor, m\u00e1s cantidad de adultos mayores, en resumen, un diagn\u00f3stico socio-territorial de la ciudad\u201d<\/strong>, explic\u00f3 Juan Antonio Carrasco.<\/p>\n

Este estudio, adem\u00e1s requer\u00eda de un diagn\u00f3stico en cuanto a la accesibilidad a servicios pensando en un ejercicio de cuarentena como el que actualmente vive Chill\u00e1n. \u201cPoder identificar cu\u00e1les son los territorios de la ciudad que tienen un mayor o menor acceso a centros de salud, farmacias y supermercados; desde qu\u00e9 lugares se puede llegar a estos en 20 minutos caminando y desde cu\u00e1les no, entre otros\u201d<\/strong>, explic\u00f3 el docente de Ingenier\u00eda Civil.<\/p>\n

Investigaci\u00f3n 2<\/strong><\/p>\n

A partir de toda la informaci\u00f3n recogida en el trabajo liderado por Juan Antonio Carrasco, surge una segunda l\u00ednea de investigaci\u00f3n a cargo del acad\u00e9mico Diego Seco, quien ha estado identificando cu\u00e1les son los lugares que potencialmente puedan ser m\u00e1s complejos, por ejemplo, donde haya una cantidad importante de poblaci\u00f3n contagiada y, adem\u00e1s, existan personas que tengan problemas respiratorios o tengan una edad avanzada, de tal manera que la Seremi de Salud pueda priorizar no solo d\u00f3nde fiscalizar, sino d\u00f3nde es necesario que exista una mayor ayuda.<\/p>\n

\u201cHay ciertos patrones, ciertas zonas que requieren especial atenci\u00f3n, lo que se pone en conocimiento de las autoridades. Hay inter\u00e9s de parte de ellos y est\u00e1 todo nuestro esfuerzo voluntario para que el trabajo cient\u00edfico, que hemos desarrollado durante tantos a\u00f1os, pueda ser de verdad un apoyo en un momento de crisis como este. Estamos dedicando muchas horas de nuestro d\u00eda a hacer este tipo de an\u00e1lisis y llevarles a ellos las conclusiones\u201d<\/strong>, expres\u00f3 Seco, quien tambi\u00e9n manifest\u00f3 su deseo de poder trabajar con regiones para que la comunidad cient\u00edfica de estas se siga sumando a las iniciativas.<\/p>\n

Investigaci\u00f3n 3<\/strong><\/p>\n

En una tercera l\u00ednea de investigaci\u00f3n est\u00e1 el investigador y docente Guillermo Cabrera, quien form\u00f3 un equipo para trabajar en los modelos epidemiol\u00f3gicos donde se modela a la poblaci\u00f3n de acuerdo a distintos compartimentos. \u201cSi yo estoy sano y no he tenido contacto con nadie que tenga el virus, soy de la \u2018poblaci\u00f3n susceptible\u2019; despu\u00e9s, si es que tengo contacto con alguien que tiene el virus, me expongo y me convierto en \u2018poblaci\u00f3n expuesta\u2019, pero que puede estar no contagiando, lo que se conoce como el periodo de incubaci\u00f3n; luego de un periodo empiezo a contagiar a la gente y me transformo en \u2018poblaci\u00f3n infecciosa\u2019. Finalmente, despu\u00e9s de un periodo me recupero o lamentablemente fallezco. Eso se puede modelar matem\u00e1ticamente con ciertas ecuaciones diferenciales\u201d<\/strong>, explic\u00f3 Cabrera.<\/p>\n

Reconoce que la complejidad es muy alta, sobre todo porque a\u00fan no hay consenso sobre valores exactos, adem\u00e1s de que los datos que est\u00e1n llegando son solo los que se testean, una dificultad reconocida en la mayor\u00eda del mundo, y los que s\u00ed se testean muchas veces vienen con retrasos debido a que todo se ha tenido que implementar sobre la marcha a causa de la rapidez de la pandemia.<\/p>\n

\u201cEl mensaje m\u00e1s importante ac\u00e1 es que la \u00fanica variable que podemos controlar es la tasa de contacto entre los infectados y los no infectados. Est\u00e1 demostrado que si se empieza a disminuir la tasa de contacto es la \u00fanica forma eficiente de controlar la pandemia, aparte de un antiviral o una vacuna que no tenemos. Todos los modelos dicen eso, lo \u00fanico que hay que lograr es que la poblaci\u00f3n no se contacte entre ella y eso es lo complicado de implementar\u201d,<\/strong> sentenci\u00f3 Cabrera.<\/p>\n

Cabe destacar que est\u00e1n en curso otras iniciativas relacionadas con generar informaci\u00f3n para enfrentar la pandemia, en el caso del Departamento de Inform\u00e1tica y Ciencias de la Computaci\u00f3n existe un catastro de voluntarios para participar en iniciativas relacionadas con el covid-19, tanto de estudiantes de pre y postgrado, como egresados.
