Fuente: Ver\u00f3nica Gormaz y Paulina V\u00e9jar<\/em><\/p>\n La suficiente capacidad de los proveedores de Internet para soportar el tr\u00e1fico de los usuarios, en Chile y el mundo, es una de las razones que menciona el acad\u00e9mico de Ingenier\u00eda Civil en Telecomunicaciones de la Facultad de Ingenier\u00eda UdeC, Jorge Pezoa, para establecer que es muy poco probable un colapso de la red, aunque s\u00ed se ha reportado una baja en la calidad de las conexiones.<\/p>\n En las \u00faltimas semanas y debido a la emergencia sanitaria provocada por el COVID-19, la mayor\u00eda de las personas ha trasladado el trabajo de oficina a sus hogares, as\u00ed como tambi\u00e9n lo han hecho estudiantes de todos los niveles de ense\u00f1anza con sus asignaturas.<\/p>\n Al respecto el docente de la Facultad de Ingenier\u00eda UdeC explic\u00f3 que producto de lo anterior existe un mayor n\u00famero de usuarios conectados, \u201cLa consecuencia de esto es el alza general de tr\u00e1fico de datos de varios tipos; Por ejemplo, por el teletrabajo han aumentado las<\/strong> videoconferencias<\/strong>, las llamadas de voz sobre IP y las llamadas telef\u00f3nicas. Por otra parte las personas buscan entretenerse viendo pel\u00edculas, jugando en l\u00ednea y socializando de manera virtual<\/strong>\u201d, especific\u00f3 Pezoa.<\/p>\n Cabe destacar que la Subsecretar\u00eda de Telecomunicaciones (SubTel) report\u00f3 que el tr\u00e1fico de Internet en Chile, en estas \u00faltimas semanas, ha subido alrededor de un 30% con respecto a como estaba antes del estallido social. El mismo fen\u00f3meno de aumento de tr\u00e1fico se ha visto en todo el mundo: Espa\u00f1a aument\u00f3 su tr\u00e1fico en un 80% al comenzar el lockdown, en Alemania ha \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0del 20% producto de la pandemia, en Estados Unidos tiene entre 40% a 60% m\u00e1s de tr\u00e1fico. Adem\u00e1s, varios pa\u00edses est\u00e1n rompiendo sus propios records en estos d\u00edas.<\/p>\n En este contexto, para el acad\u00e9mico, la baja en la calidad de las conexiones a Internet es un hecho, pero asegur\u00f3 que las causas son variadas. \u201cEn t\u00e9rminos t\u00e9cnicos, el nuevo escenario de tr\u00e1fico ha hecho que las empresas proveedoras de servicios de Internet (ISPs) experimenten aumentos en la cantidad de conexiones fallidas, disminuciones en las velocidades medias y m\u00e1ximas de conexi\u00f3n, aumento de tr\u00e1fico de datos uplink (de subida) y aumentos en la latencia de comunicaci\u00f3n. Todas estas variaciones hacen que la calidad de las conexiones, en todas partes, se degraden<\/strong>\u201d, especific\u00f3.<\/p>\n De igual manera, los usuarios finales tambi\u00e9n han reportado bajas en la calidad, mencion\u00f3 Pezoa, pero la experiencia de usuario, es decir lo que uno percibe como su conexi\u00f3n a Internet, requiere un an\u00e1lisis m\u00e1s extenso, ya que depender\u00eda si es por cable, fibra \u00f3ptica o inal\u00e1mbrica. As\u00ed como tambi\u00e9n el tipo de datos que se est\u00e9n intercambiando, cu\u00e1ntos usuarios hay conectados a los mismos puntos de acceso (un mismo edificio o una misma antena celular), depende de los equipos que utilizan los usuarios (celulares o computadores y los routers de las casas). \u201cDesde el punto de vista del tr\u00e1fico, al aumentar el n\u00famero de conexiones vamos a experimentar una baja en la calidad, sobre todo en aquellas redes que no est\u00e1n preparadas para un n\u00famero importante de conexiones que hacen y uso intensivo de los datos, tanto de bajada como de subida, como son las redes hogare\u00f1as\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n
