Con la charla magistral del Dr. Enrique Iglesia<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0de la Universidad de California, Berkeley,<\/a> el Departamento de Ingenier\u00eda Qu\u00edmica dio por finalizada las actividades efectuadas durante el 2019 y que formaron parte de la celebraci\u00f3n centenario.<\/p>\n

La actividad, realizada el 14 de enero, en el auditorio Hugo Segura, cont\u00f3 con la participaci\u00f3n de acad\u00e9micos, egresados, estudiantes y administrativos. El Decano Luis Mor\u00e1n felicit\u00f3 a cada uno de los integrantes del Departamento por sus iniciativas y entusiasmos en las distintas celebraciones, como tambi\u00e9n destac\u00f3 el trabajo para lograr, en un futuro cercano, la acreditaci\u00f3n ABET, un hito para la Facultad de Ingenier\u00eda.<\/p>\n

\u201cEs un gran honor estar ac\u00e1 y de alguna manera he mantenido los contactos con Latinoam\u00e9rica en cuanto a la ingenier\u00eda qu\u00edmica, as\u00ed que me siento parte de esa comunidad\u201d,<\/strong> explic\u00f3 el Dr. Enrique Iglesia, nacido en Cuba, pero formado en Estados Unidos, quien participa en todas las reuniones iberoamericanas. \u201cSiento que los beneficios que he recibido hay que empezar a regresarlos de alguna manera, as\u00ed que no me molesta viajar y formar parte de una familia (DIQ UdeC), a la cual no pertenezco, pero que me ha acogido como si fuera miembro\u201d,<\/strong> explicit\u00f3.<\/p>\n

El Dr. Iglesia, quien expuso \u201cTailoring binding sites and their environments\u201d,<\/em> ha sido reconocido internacionalmente por su trabajo en el \u00e1rea de catalizadores heterog\u00e9neos, recibiendo este a\u00f1o 2020 el premio E. V. Murphree Award in Industrial and Engineering Chemistry, American Chemical Society<\/em><\/p>\n

Para el investigador, el Departamento de Ingenier\u00eda Qu\u00edmica de la Universidad de Concepci\u00f3n es el n\u00famero uno en Latinoam\u00e9rica, \u201ccreo que es una combinaci\u00f3n de una historia, de una cultura que se cre\u00f3 con egresados que regresaron despu\u00e9s de entrenamientos externos, que crearon un nivel de an\u00e1lisis y rigor que generalmente no lo comparten mucho los departamentos de ingenier\u00eda qu\u00edmica en Latinoam\u00e9rica\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Respecto al rol del ingeniero en los desaf\u00edos mundiales, Enrique Iglesias espera que los nuevos profesionales lo superen, \u00a0y lo van a hacer \u2013 opina el acad\u00e9mico – de una manera distinta a la que esperamos. \u201cSi no tuviera esperanza de las futuras generaciones yo creo que no hubiera sido un acad\u00e9mico, no hubiera dejado un puesto mejor pagado al que tengo ahora para entrenar a los estudiantes\u201d,<\/strong> coment\u00f3 el especialista, quien reconoce adem\u00e1s que en todos los acad\u00e9micos existe un compuesto de ego. \u201cLo que yo s\u00e9 vale m\u00e1s de lo que sabe otro y por lo tanto, se lo voy a pasar a mis estudiantes y tienes que tener tambi\u00e9n el optimismo de que los estudiantes podr\u00e1n absorberlo o usar y despu\u00e9s propagar tambi\u00e9n\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cabe destacar que el Dr. Enrique Iglesia ha estado vinculado hace bastante tiempo con el DIQ, principalmente, gracias a un lazo de trabajo y amistad con Sebasti\u00e1n Reyes, egresado del DIQ y quien falleci\u00f3 el 2008, y posteriormente con el acad\u00e9mico Romel Jim\u00e9nez.<\/p>\n

Al finalizar la ceremonia se reconoci\u00f3 el apoyo de alumnos y administrativos en la coordinaci\u00f3n y ejecuci\u00f3n de las actividades del centenario.<\/p>\n
